I said that I will be blogging about what is going on to help improve the South and South East neighborhoods of the city. Here is a way you can take part. The South Chicago Neighborhood House at 8458 S. Mackinaw is asking for volunteers for their Fall programs for Senior Citizens from 10 am to noon and for children in the after school programs from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm and teens and adults from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm. Call Neil Bosanko at 773-768-1221 or Rich Melendrez at 773-731-8187 if you would like more information or are willing to donate some of your time to help Seniors, children, teens or adults. Your efforts will help make a difference in the lives of others, yourself and the community.
For homeowners who fear losing their homes due to high taxation of their property, on Aug 29 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at 3045 W. 63rd Street there will be a Home Tax Appeal and Tax Exemption Night! Alderman Toni L. Foulkes and Joseph Berrios from tne Cook County Assessor’s Office will tell people how to get their property taxes reduced and see if they are entitled to a refund. If we can help people keep their homes there will be less foreclosed and abandoned property. We’ll have fewer places for gangs, drug dealers, prostitutes, etc. to squat and little squalor. So, it will add to the safety and well being of our residents.
