King’s track coach Daunte Gouge wins regional award

King’s track and field coach Daunte Gouge has been named the Western Boys Winner of the Gill Athletics High School Track and Field Coach of the Year award. Here is the press release:

INDIANAPOLIS – Daunte Gouge of King’s High School has won the western award for the Gill Athletics High School Track and Field Coach of the Year Award.

The Gill Coach of the Year Award is given annually to one boys’ and one girls’ coach nationwide who has had an outstanding coaching record in the current school year and who also demonstrates service to the sport, school and community. Nominations are solicited for coaches across the country, and then regional winners are selected from six geographic regions. A committee of noted coaching experts then meets to select the national award winners.

The two national recipients of the Gill Athletics High School Coach of the Year award will be flown to Eugene, Ore. to receive their award at the 2011 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on June 25, 2011. Each coach will also receive $5,000 worth of Gill Athletics track & field equipment for his/her respective High School program.

The 2011 Regional Coaches of the Year are:

Juan Plaza (Calvary Baptist Academy) – Central Boys Winner
David Emeott (East Kentwood High School) – Mid-Atlantic Boys Winner
Bob Nihells (Lake Park High School) – Midwest Boys Winner
Mike Potter (Warwick Valley High School) – New England Boys Winner
Woody Barnett (Pearl High School) – Southeast Boys Winner
Daunte Gouge (King’s High School) – Western Boys Winner
Drew Yoakum (Fayetteville School District) – Central Girls Winner
Rob Defilippis (Red Bank Catholic High School) – Mid-Atlantic Girls Winner
Patrick Castagno (the Tatnall School) – Mid-Atlantic Girls Winner
Ryan Krall (Colfax High School) – Midwest Girls Winner
Henry Phelan (Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School) – New England Girls Winner
Jim Tate (St. Paul’s Episcopal School) – Southeast Girls Winner
Richard Rucker (William Howard Taft High School) – Western Girls Winner

The national winners will be announced on June 7, 2011.
