  Classroom Management

In the contemporary climate, managing the classroom can be "challenging" to say the least. I could become philosphical about this, and discuss why we are in the state we are - the decline in social values, etc. I suspect, however, that it would be more helpful to give some tips from my own experience in the art room. For more classroom management strategies, see the Teaching Strategies page.

Practical Lessons

Art History Lessons My standard format for practical, lessons is a brief introduction (about 5 minutes - 10 minutes for more complex demonstrations) followed by a practical art making activity. 5 minutes is an achievable amount of concentration time for most students, especially if they know they are about to be doing something fun, and they need to listen so they'll know what to do.

Teaching Strategies Theoretical Lessons - Art History and Art Criticism
Motivation For Art History or Art Criticism Lessons - the theoretical ones - it's a good idea to break the lesson up into a range of different activities and ensure that the focus is still 'hands-on' for students to be actively engaged in learning.
